23 May 2009. World record holder, Suma Shirur narrowly missed the bronze medal by 0.7 points and finished 5th in the women's air rifle event on the opening day of of the ISSF World Cup at Milan.
Suma shot a qualification score of 398 (99,100,99,100) and followed it with a 101.7 in the final which also included a perfect 10.9 in her last final shot.
Lajja Gauswami also shot very well to register a score of 397 (100,99,99,99) and tied with six others for the last eight berth for the final. In the shoot off to decide the qualifier among the tied shooters, she shot 51.3 to eventually settle for the 9th position.
The third Indian in the event, Priya Agarwal shot 396 (99,98,99,100) to finish 15th in a strong field of 90 shooters.
In the MQS section, Radhika Barale shot 395 (100,98,98,99) while Sanyukta Hasabnis shot 387 (96,94,97,100).
The gold was won by Sonja Pfeilschifter of Germany with a score of 502. (399+102.0)
